The direction of Dairy in New Zealand - and why science matters

We’re not afraid to challenge the status quo. We think there have been parts of our Dairy industry that have been taken down pathways that may not be the best for the industry, and we’re not afraid to challenge that. Not just for the sake of it, but when there’s good science and good evidence that there may be a better way of doing something, we’re going to look at it.

We’ll always look outward with a scientific lens – backed up by our strong global partnerships.

So much fantastic R&D has been done internationally, but traditionally in New Zealand we shy away from looking at international research as people think, oh that won’t work here because we’re different here – which is far from true.

Using this global research has been a key part of why Ruminate’s business has grown exponentially, and the many success stories of our Kiwi farmers backs that up.

New Zealand agriculture, with our nutrition lens

It is a challenging time for NZ agriculture. There’s a lot coming down at us – and it’s going to remain a dynamic and challenging environment.

Regulations coming in thick and fast, more compliance just to continue to operate, water quality improvements, greenhouse gasses and ETS, animal welfare and farmers mental wellbeing, agflation - and we’re going to have to front up to them and whatever new challenges come our way.

The good news is, there’s lots we can do in this space to help.

What can you expect from us?

You can expect us to stand alongside our Farmers and be part of solutions, not problems. You won’t see someone from Ruminate coming through the farm gate to commiserate or grizzle how unfair things are, we are going to visit and say things like, let’s find the solution. The science exists, let’s work out how to apply it in our New Zealand settings.

We see it as our social, ethical, and commercial responsibility do the research, to understand these issues at a deep level – and then with our nutrition lens, find solutions to these issues that are tangible, cost effective and practical.

We’re not always going to have the answers, but we’re not afraid to collaborate and work with people to nut it out – to deliver real differences.

We’ll always turn up with two ears and one mouth. If you’ve got something you want to ask us, or think there’s things we should be working on, question us – we love it.
