We believe that targeted nutrient support is essential in order to unlock your stock's full genetic potential. First we work with you to plan and evaluate, then we can analyse and advise on your feeding plan. • The Origin Story

Back in 2016 two great mates identified an opportunity to establish a ruminant nutrition company, with a focus on balancing animals’ diet in what are predominantly grass-fed production systems.

In the early days, Alastair and Jack were flat out getting introductions with farmers, analysing and developing diets then making the mineral blends in their mate’s farm shed. The only piece of kit they had was a trusty blue concrete mixer.

Astonishingly, they produced 38 Tonne of product in the first 4 months.

Rapid growth continued and in 2018, leading Practice Franklin Vets bought into the business. By 2021 Ruminate moved into a purpose-built factory in Napier and opened a Timaru branch. Production passed 2,000 Tonne a year and the Ruminate team was 15 strong.

We enlist global scientific research and practical local knowledge in everything we do.

We look at the best international research, through strong partnerships with places around the world such as Penn State, Iowa and Cornell University - and we bring that research back to New Zealand. We then put a practical New Zealand spin on it, and deliver it to Kiwi farmers.

We team up with Industry partners who help us deliver optimal nutrition throughout the country, and engage in research with leading Agricultural science bodies like AgriZero NZ and Ag Research to generate new knowledge.

It doesn’t matter if you have 250 cows or 2,500 cows, if you want to improve the health and performance of your cows, and get back to being a proud farmer – then you’re our huckleberry. We want to work with you.
